2026 T-Ball - Rally Cap Program

South Ottawa is excited to announce a new enhanced baseball program for our youngest of players aged 4 and 5 for the 2026 baseball season. Rally Cap based on the principles of learning fundamental skills and having FUN doing it.  It combines age appropriate game play introduction with time to learn and practice skills.

For those of you returning to our T-Ball program, you won't notice a lot of difference as we have always used a station based program focusing on FUNdamentals. The Rally Cap Program, supported by the Toronto Blue Jays provides additional coach / parent resources including videos in an easy to follow format.  And every player will receive a Jays cap in addition to their team tee shirt.

Structure of the program:
On any field there will be 3-5 teams, two teams will engage in a short game of 2-3 innings (with all players batting) while the other team(s) will practice fundamental skills in the field. The teams rotate so that all teams will participate in mini games along with an opportunity to practice.
Scores are not kept for these games.  Here's an introductory video and a resource manual for coaches.  Our age group is younger than the athletes in the video so we modify accordingly.

 Equipment

Your child needs a batting helmet and a glove, that's it. We supply everything else.  No need for top of the line equipment - just don't buy a glove that's too big thinking they'll grow into it. Buy one that fits now - and nothing wrong with a used one that fits - it's already broken in! For equipment information visit our website under that tab.

South Ottawa is a volunteer organization. We will need parents to volunteer as convenors and coaches. Each program will require a convenor, a head coach and 4-6 assistant coaches to organize and execute the program.   Coaching at this level is not difficult.  Coaches are provided with an easy to follow  plan for each session. Coaches are encouraged to attend the spring Teaching for Tomorrow clinic, an opportunity that will be useful in T-ball and will also provide a good foundation of knowledge for progression into later divisions.

T-ball is intended to be a fun, non-competitive skills development program  Players will be exposed to the basics of baseball including hitting off a tee, catching, throwing and base running. Each session consists of fun skill development plus a short game.  Players receive a participation award at the end of the season and a photo.

The ball is hit off a tee using a soft baseball. Players run the bases and start to learn the positions.  Outs are introduced, and later in the season enforced, but do not count for inning progression. Players must have their own glove and helmet.
